David Sautter was born and raised in Zurich. He received his teaching diploma from the Zurich Conservatory, where he studied with Walter Feybli, and his soloist diploma from the Music Academy of Basel under Oscar Ghiglia. A subsequent scholarship took him to the Swiss Institute in Rome, where he conducted research on the folk song traditions of southern Italy.
For over forty years, he has maintained a close artistic collaboration with the singer and author Letizia Fiorenza (I Cantimbanchi). Since 1988, he has been a permanent member of the internationally touring Eos Guitar Quartet. As a guitarist, arranger, composer, and theatre musician, he has built a richly varied career, performing extensively in concerts and working on numerous theatre and recording projects. With the Eos Guitar Quartet, he released Quadra—featuring works by Swiss composers—on Deutsche Grammophon (Universal). His most recent recordings include El alma de Paco (2020) and The Wonderful World of Nino Rota (2022), in collaboration with flutist Murat Cevik.
